Farewell

At 4 o'clock we had to say goodbye; Bengt took me to the central coach station despite this unearthly hour. At the airport I got on the plane at the last minute, because the coach unexpectedly had to drive a diversion.

On the train through the Black Forest I was reminded of the mountains of Norway.

Anette picked me up and we strolled along Lake of Constance and through the centre of Radolfzell in bright sunshine. In this way I became reconciled with the idea at the forthcoming end of my trip.

Hmm, it´s tasty

Every morning we cycled to the school. After these 15 minutes ride we were wide awake after the short night.

During the lessons Bengt devotes attention to individual students, because he has an assistant. I repeated German dialogues and asked questions.

In the evening Bengt cooked Swedish specialities. Hmm, tasty!

As dessert we visited a jazz club where a band interpreted very well Leonard Cohen.

Great school!

On Wednesday I told stories about my trips in Bengt´s English class. The pupils asked me about the foreign countries and what kind of predilections I have.

I was very much keen on the equipment of the rooms, the learning materials, the size of the playground, ...

All children get lunch and in the afternoon assistant teachers look after kids.

In the Church where most of the Swedish kings are buried we learned some new stories about the common history of our countries.

Yes, I still like school

On Tuesday I went to school with Bengt. Everywhere and all day, there was a quiet and friendly atmosphere. The children took an active part in lessons. They were interested in me and Germany and they liked to learn some German sentences.

On a map I recognised many islands on which Stockholm is built.

We visited an Astrid Lindgren park and in the evening Bengt conducted me through the tourist-free town, e.g. in the narrowest alley of Stockholm.

Finally, arrivial in Stockholm!

Travelling each day from South to North in Norway and back in Sweden, I arrived on Monday in Stockholm.

Here I was living 4 days with my penfriend - no longer search for connecting trains and accomodation. Bengt even picked me up at the railway station and showed me nice views of the town. In the evening we had lunch together with his wife in a vegetarian restaurant with marvellous look at the town.

In the track of the fathers to the victories of the future

Further it went with Inlandsbanan to South, e.g., over the "Mankell Bridge", on which cars and also trains take to Mora.

I arrived just when a race ended. I asked what had happend, so people invited me for blue berry soup. I also got a wooly hat, but I have to take part in the next Vasaloppet. Well, I have to exercise cross-country skiing.

The race, more than 90 km straight through the hilly countryside attracts yearly more than 45,000 skier. A historical motto stands about the target line.

Moreover in Mora, I got to know artworks of ANDERS ZORN which was valid as one of the most important artists at the beginning of the 20th century.

Great country – the journey is the aim

Today

another dream became true: I started from North to the South with the famous Inlandsbanan. This train runs for more than 100 years through the interior of Sweden, approx. 1300 km.

A guide informed us about places of interest and took our order before we stopped for lunch. However, the train also stopped for nice places to take a photo.

Through Lapland

Narvik owns an ice-free harbour. Therefore, German soldiers destroyed the town almost completely during WW II.

On the mine railway along the fjord my Grand Canyon feelings woke up.

Quite early I found a B&B in Gällivare, Sweden. So I had time to explore old buildings: the 1Öre church which served for the christianisation of the Sami, Samish camp, windmill, farmhouses from the past centuries.
