The next night was very cold and our tents were wet, so we spent the night in a log cabin near Lake Isabella.
On the 3rd day we went to Death Valley. We were astonished by the plants, that survive in these conditions.
There were great views of colourful rocks and a dreamlike sky above us with many shooting stars.
Albert Hammond sang in the 60s – We could only laugh when we went to get up in the morning, barely out of the tent lay 40 cm of fresh snowfall. Because of the danger from snowy branches breaking we had to pack.
After 6 hours of shoveling (with cutting boards) and pushing and only because a snow plough cleaned the entrance to our place, we came out of the cold.
Luckily we saw black bears only in a bar.

With Intrepid I am doing a tour through the USA from San Francisco via New Orleans to New York.
On the 1st day we went to Yosemite National Park to have a look at the famous waterfalls. Instead we experienced another form of "waterfall". In the evening we ate and all the while it was snowing – oh just, a little bit.
I was on the move all day long. Unfortunately, it was raining often, so I had to warm up myself in cafés – good for diary.
On my last evening I saw "Wicked", the musical of the "bad" green witch who had no friends because she looked different.
On the way home I saw a lot of people sleeping in entrances or simply on the sidewalk.
The next day we walked with a guide from the USAhostel through the center of San Francisco. From the Coit Tower we had a great view.
She showed us places of interest (CHINATOWN, BRIDGE OAKLAND BAY; MAMA'S.), but led us also to a small store where still Good luck biscuits are formed by hand.
Beside she told us about the hard working Asians (esp. Chinese) for the construction of the railway and after the earthquake in 1906 in San Francisco.
„You live close to Stuttgart, then you are driving Mercedes Benz or Porsche“, said Dylan, at the beginning of his tour. Together with 9 other people he drove us through San Francisco.
First we raised up the Twin Peaks to get an overview.
We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and went to the Muir Woods National Park.
Dylan told us endless stories about musicians and artists which live or lived here and showed us less known neighbour hoods.
After 9 hours on a couch I arrived in San Francisco. I found accomodation in the USAhostel, old building with high rooms, in the city centre close Unionsquare, very nice Staff.
Although I was tired, I strolled around for a while with the songs of the Flower power area in my head.
